A Winnie-the-Pooh Chronology

The first authorized sequel of A. A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh books was Return to the Hundred Acre Wood, by David Benedictus, published in 2009.  The book does a masterful job of following the continuity of the original books, with the events clearly taking place after the closing chapters of Milne's final Pooh book, The House at Pooh Corner.

The second authorized sequel, The Best Bear in All the World, was published in 2016. This collection, containing four stories by four different authors, is more lax in its attention to continuity. The stories take place in some sort of general, non-specific time period, with the later events in the Milne stories being ignored. For instance, in the penultimate two chapters of The House of Pooh Corner, the tree which is home to Owl's house blows down; destroying Owl's house. Owl moves into Piglet's house, and Piglet moves in to Pooh's house, sharing his home with him.

This continuity detail is adhered to by Benedictus in his book Return to the Hundred Acre Wood, who clearly locates Owl in Piglet's old home. However, in the stories in which Owl appears in The Best Bear in All the World, Owl is back in his old tree house. This then places the stories in this latest collection before those of the preceeding sequel, and before the final chapters of Milne's final book.

The chronology given on this page is an in-progess effort to create a non-contradictory ordering of all the Pooh stories from the Milne books and from the two authorized sequels. As I discover additional details, I may re-order the stories.

Amazon links to the books themselves are at the bottom of this page, following the list.
